WVB: Highlanders Sweep Bryn Athyn

BRYN AHTYN, PA – Cairn Women's Volleyball picked up another sweep on Wednesday night on the road against Bryn Athyn, 3-0.
 
Cairn (14-4 / 6-1 UNITED EAST) opened the match ahead 6-2 on aces by senior outside hitter Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) and junior libero Payton Cline (Falling Waters, WV / Heritage Academy). Bryn Athyn (4-15 / 2-5 UNITED EAST) tied the score on an ace of their own and two kills. After another kill by Conrad, freshman middle Maddie Shackelford (Warrington, PA / Plumstead Christian) sent back a solo block, running ahead 14-9, and then added a kill to stay up 17-14. Conrad put the first set away with two kills, 25-17.
 
The second set went in favor of the Highlanders to start, beginning on a 15-4 run from two kills apiece from Conrad, junior outside hitter Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy), and senior opposite Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy). Dahn, sophomore middle Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) and Conrad helped the Highlanders run away with the score, 25-14.
 
After the Lions scored three quick points to open the third, Cairn responded in force with three kills from the swing of Peabody to take the lead, running ahead again 13-6 with two kills by Dahn, keeping Bryn Athyn in single digits as the Highlanders powered ahead 21-9 as Shackelford added another kill. Junior outside hitter Abigail Di Sipio (East Earl, PA / Homeschool) fueled the final burst over the finish line with a kill as Cairn wont he set 25-14.
 
Conrad and Peabody each had eight kills, Thorpe adding six kills and three solo blocks, Dahn had five kills. Cline scooped up 21 digs followed shortly by Conrad with 20. Shackelford added two kills with as many solo blocks.
 
The Highlanders will match up with the conference leading Bison of Gallaudet at home on Friday night.
