LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Women's Volleyball hosted the Phoenix of Wilson College for both squads' conference openers. The Highlanders ran away with a 3-0 sweep to go 1-0 in United East play.
Wilson (1-14 / 0-1 United East) opened with the first two points of the match with the Highlanders responding back behind sophomores
Madison Delp (York, PA / Clarks Summit University) and
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) to help tie things up. Senior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) added two kills before Cairn (7-2 / 1-0 United East) went running for the finish. A service ace and kill by Dahn got the momentum swung to put the Highlanders ahead 18-12 before going on another run to 24-15 and putting Wilson danger close to dropping the set. The Phoenix managed two points in their short-lived comeback effort before Cairn put the cap on the set, 25-17.
Set two was begun with three consecutive aces from Conrad to prime the offense ahead of a ten-point run behind two kills and a solo block from Delp, Highlanders ahead 18-7 and Delp adding another kill to get to 20-9. Senior opposite
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) took Cairn over the finish line with a pair of kills, 25-14.
The early portion of set three would see four lead changes as Wilson attempted to kick start their offense. The effort was of no avail as Cairn scored three quick points behind the serve of junior defensive specialist
Delaney Hollenbeck (Kingsley, PA / Lackawanna College) with an ace and a kill each from Conrad and Delp. After the Phoenix got control back, Conrad secured the Highlander serve with two kills going ahead 13-7. Peabody then got hot at the right time with four kills and an assisted block (with Delp) to clinch the third set, 25-16, and first conference win of 2024.
Peabody paced the offense on Tuesday with ten kills, seven of which came in the third set. Conrad finished with nine kills, three aces and a block assist for 12.5 points. Dahn added eight kills and an ace while Delp had five kills with a solo block and pair of assisted blocks. Graduate setter
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) finished with 31 assists and a kill.
