ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cairn University women's tennis team opened up Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with a 9-0 shutout on the road against Cedar Crest College in a rematch of last year's conference championship match on Monday afternoon.
Cairn (4-4, 1-0 CSAC) claimed three comfortable victories in doubles play, led by the tandem of senior
Paige Kemper (Lancaster, PA / Garden Spot) and sophomore
Ersy Neal (Wayne, PA / Delco Christian) with an 8-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles. Junior
Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Veritas, VA / Veritas School) and sophomore
Rebekah Hepp collected an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, and juniors
Abby Horning (St. Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) and
Gabriella Hurst (Stevens, PA / Cocalico) posted an 8-0 shutout at No. 3 doubles.
Kemper, Campbell-Robertson, and Neal each dispatched their opponents, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles respectively, while Hepp grabbed a 6-3, 6-1 (10-6) tiebreak win in the No. 4 slot. Horning posted a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 5 singles, and Hurst rounded out the day with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in the No. 6 singles position.
The Highlanders will be back on the court on Friday, April 14 when they travel to Bryn Athyn College for a conference match at 4 p.m.
