MORRISVILLE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's tennis team won, 5-0, against No. 4 seed Bryn Athyn College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semifinals on Friday afternoon. With the win, Cairn advances to its fourth-consecutive conference championship match.
Cairn (9-5) swept doubles play against Bryn Athyn (3-9), led by senior
Paige Kemper (Lancaster, PA / Garden Spot) and sophomore
Ersy Neal (Wayne, PA / Delaware County Christian School) with an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles. Junior
Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Richmond, VA / Veritas School) and sophomore
Rebekah Hepp picked up an 8-2 victory in the No. 2 slot, while juniors
Abby Horning (St. Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) and
Gabriella Hurst (Stevens, PA / Cocalico) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win in the No. 3 slating.
Needing only five wins to advance, Kemper gave Cairn its first of two needed singles victories, earning a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Neal gave Cairn the decisive win it needed, battling in the No. 3 slot to edge out a narrow 6-3, 3-6 (10-8) tiebreak victory to seal the match for the Highlanders. With the win, Kemper became the second winningest singles player in program history, surpassing Katelynn Wilson with her 33
rd career singles victory, and trails only Rebecca Graber in career singles victories (37).
As mentioned, the Highlanders advanced to their fourth-straight conference title match, where they have a date with No. 2 seed Clarks Summit University (who defeated No. 3 seed Cedar Crest College, 5-2 in the other semifinal matchup) tomorrow inside the Pennsbury Racquet Club at 2 p.m.
