LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's tennis team earned their third-straight victory with a 7-2 win at home against Rutgers Camden on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the match, the Highlanders honored their two seniors,
Timothy Robinson Jr. (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) and
Joel Cassel (Glenside, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) for their contributions and leadership to the program over their respective careers.
Cairn (5-6) posted victories in two of the three doubles matches against Rutgers Camden (0-12), led by the duo of sophomore
Joel Kim (Harrington Park, NJ / Black Forest Academy) and freshman
Jacob Gossel (Allentown, PA / Covenant Christian) with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. The freshman tandem of
Daniel Stange and
Ethan Fan followed that up with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Robinson Jr. led the Highlanders in singles play with a big 2-6, 6-3 (10-7) tiebreak victory in the No. 1 slot, followed by a 6-1, 6-0 No. 2 singles victory by sophomore
Michael Wilson (New Hope, PA / New Hope Solebury). Kim picked up a 6-3, 6-0 triumph in the No. 3 slot, while Stange posted a 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 4 singles. Fan rounded out the day for Cairn with a 6-3, 6-0 besting of his opponent in the No. 6 singles position.
The Highlanders conclude the 2022-23 campaign with an overall record of 5-6, and won ended the season on a three-match win streak. Cairn finished 4-1 at the McCurdy Tennis Facility for the campaign.
