BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Cairn University women's tennis team moved to 2-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with a 9-0 shutout on the road at Bryn Athyn College on Friday evening.
Cairn (5-4, 2-0 CSAC) won all three matches in doubles play over Bryn Athyn (1-7, 0-2 CSAC), led by the duo of senior
Paige Kemper (Lancaster, PA / Garden Spot) and sophomore
Ersy Neal (Wayne, PA / Delco Christian) with an 8-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles. Junior
Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Veritas, VA / Veritas School) and sophomore
Rebekah Hepp collected an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles, and juniors
Abby Horning (St. Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) and
Gabriella Hurst (Stevens, PA / Cocalico) posted an 8-2 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
Kemper notched a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of her opponent at No. 1 singles, while Campbell-Robertson earned a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 2 slating. Neal got a decisive victory over the reigning CSAC Rookie of the Year (6-4, 6-3) at No. 3 singles, while Horning shutout her opponent (6-0, 6-0) in the No. 4 slot. Hepp and Hurst rounded out the day for Cairn with wins at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-0) and No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-1), respectively.
The Highlanders will be back on the court tomorrow when they try to beat the rain in the conference matchup with Saint Elizabeth University in Morristown at 10:30 a.m.
