Women's Basketball: Highlanders Win Four Straight as Hinson Collects 500th Career Rebound

READING, PA – The Cairn University Women's Basketball team collected their fourth-straight win on the road, Monday night, defeating the Nittany Lions of Penn State – Berks, 60-49.

  • Freshman guard Ella Quince (Morrisville, PA / Morrisville HS) led all Highlanders with 12 points and 9 rebounds along with three steals.
  • Junior forward Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS) collected her 500th career rebound, 8 for the game, along with 11 points and three steals as well.
How It Played Out
  • The first quarter was played close with Penn State – Berks (1-4) barely outscoring the Highlanders 14-13. Freshman guard Kenadi Austin (San Antionio, TX / John Marshall) knocked down a three in the closing seconds to bring the deficit to a single point.
  • Cairn (4-1) would take control in the second period, outscoring the Nittany Lons 16-5 and scoring 12 points in the final five minutes of the half on a 12-2 run.
  • The Highlanders were on a roll out of the break, stretching the lead as far as 21 points in the third quarter on back-to-back triples from freshman guard Kayden Jeselskis (Baltimore, MD / Rosedale Christian Academy).
  • Penn State – Berks would not give up, cutting the Cairn lead to 8 before Hinson took control with two layups, both assisted by Austin, as the Highlanders were able to hold off the comeback, taking the game 60-49
Game Notes
  • Hinson collected her 500th career rebound on the road Monday night, setting her at 10th all-time in program history for career rebounds.
  • This fourth win ties the Highlanders win total for the 2022-23 season only five games into the 2023-24 campaign as Cairn Women's Basketball continues to trend upwards.
 
Upcoming Schedule
  • Conference play opens for the Highlanders following the Thanksgiving weekend as Cairn hosts the Patriots of Valley Forge on Tuesday, November 28 at 7 p.m.
  • Their home stand is short-lived as the Highlanders take the road up north to face Clarks Summit on December 2.
