LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn Women's Volleyball team continued United East Skye Division play Tuesday night, hosting Saint Elizabeth University and sweeping the Eagles, 3-0.
Points would fly back and forth, seeing three lead changes early in the action. Cairn (11-7 / 3-1 United East Skye Division) started a run with a kill from junior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) as the Highlanders went ahead 11-8. Junior opposite
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) would add two kills of her own along with back-to-back kills from Conrad as the lead grew to 18-13. Saint Elizabeth (7-12 / 3-2 United East Skye Division) found some momentum and clawed back to bring the deficit within a single point (18-17). Freshman outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) tallied two kills in the closing points as Cairn took set one, 25-18.
Set two saw the Highlanders take control as they built an early 5-0 lead. Freshman middle blocker
Rachael Banks (Sturgis, SD / Sturgis Brown High School) collected an ace followed by a block from Peabody and freshman middle blocker
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) pushed the lead further to 11-3. The Highlanders would rally to 22-8 behind senior setter
Olivia Zepp's (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) serve, featuring two aces from Zepp and two more kills from Peabody. Dahn would punch home the final kill of the set as Cairn went up 2-0, finishing set two 25-12.
Set 3 was more of the same as Cairn took a 4-0 lead on another ace from Zepp. Conrad, Banks, and Thorpe sent combined for a trifecta of kills as the Highlanders went ahead 16-6. Cairn would never look back, holding the Eagles to 10 points in the set, as Banks secured an ace for match point and Peabody sealed the victory in favor of the Highlanders, 25-10.
Zepp's serve was working as she tallied a season-high 6 aces and facilitated the Highlander offense with 33 assists along with a kill. Peabody led said offense with 15 kills on a .542 attack % and protected the net with 2 solo blocks. Conrad and Dahn added 11 and 9 kills, respectively.
The Highlanders head to La Plume on Thursday night as they take on the Giants of Keystone College at 7 p.m. on the road.
