LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's tennis team opened up their 2022-23 season with a dominant, 6-1 triumph over Marywood University in the first match of their non-traditional fall slate on Saturday afternoon.
Cairn (1-0) got the day started off strong in the doubles matches over Marywood (0-1), claiming an 8-3 triumph in the No. 1 match courtesy of sophomore
Michael Wilson (New Hope, PA / New Hope Solebury) and graduate student
Jake Edwards (Delta, PA / Harford Christian). The Highlanders collected another 8-3 victory in the No. 2 slating, as senior
Joel Cassel (Glenside, PA / Calvary Christian) and sophomore
Joel Kim (Harrington Park, NJ / Black Forest Academy) paired together to earn the win.
Wilson got things going in singles action with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 singles slot, while Edward earned the win by a score of 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 2 slating. Kim grabbed a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles, while freshman
Jacob Gossel (Allentown, PA / Covenant Christian HS) earned his first collegiate victory by besting his opponent in a battle at the No. 5 spot, 2-6, 6-2, 12-10.
The Highlanders will be back on the court on Thursday, September 22 when they welcome Gwynedd Mercy University to Langhorne for a dual match inside the McCurdy Tennis Facility starting at 4 p.m.
