Women’s Tennis: Highlanders’ Conclude Championship Season at NCAA Tournament

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference Champion (CSAC) Cairn University women's tennis team lost, 5-0, in a race to five in the first round of the NCAA Tournament hosted by Carnegie Mellon University against Hope College, winners of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), on Thursday.

Cairn (20-2) fell behind 3-0 after the doubles portion of the match concluded, as Hope (19-7) showed its prowess as the champions of one of the most-revered conference in all of Division III athletics. The Flying Dutch sealed the match and a spot in the second round after finishing off victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.

The Highlanders finished the season with an overall record of 20-2 and finished an undefeated 6-0 in conference play, including two postseason shutouts. Cairn did not drop a single point in CSAC action all season long. The Highlanders 20 wins are the most wins in program history and their 14-match winning streak through the end of the season is the longest all-time. Cairn won its third-straight CSAC Championship Title and made its third-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament this season.
