Women’s Basketball: Ravens Topple Highlanders in Road CSAC Matchup

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Cairn University women's basketball team lost, 70-48, on the road in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest against Rosemont College on Saturday, splitting the season-series with the Ravens.

Rosemont (4-13, 4-9 CSAC) held a three-point lead (11-8) over Cairn (8-12, 6-7 CSAC) with just over two minutes to play in the first quarter, before the Ravens closed the period on a 5-0 run to lead 16-8 after one. Rosemont slightly extended its lead to nine (35-26) heading into halftime. In the third period, the Highlanders got the deficit to just five (41-36) with just 1:33 left in the frame, but the Ravens again closed the quarter strongly, burying a three as time expired to take an eight-point lead into the final quarter. The final stanza belonged firmly to the Ravens, as following a jumper by freshman Tamia Warner (Ewing, NJ / Ewing) to cut the lead to six (46-40), Rosemont scored the next 14 points over a five minute span to take a 20-point lead (60-40) and put the game out of reach.

Cairn shot 25.4% (15-59) from the floor compared to a 42.4% (28-66) mark for the Ravens. Rosemont held a narrow advantage in the rebounding department (47-44)

Cairn was led by senior Dakota Hitchner (Ocean City, NJ / Atlantic Christian) who scored a team-high 21 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Warner followed with eight points, six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Senior Markie Watson (Jupiter, FL / Holy Cross Academy) finished with seven points, seven boards and tied a season-high with five assists.

Cairn will be back in action on Monday, February 7 when it travels to New Jersey to take on conference foe Saint Elizabeth University in their first matchup with the Eagles this season at 5 p.m.
