Women’s Volleyball: Highlanders Collect Straight-Set Victory over Bryn Athyn on Senior Day, Will Host Wilson in CSAC Quarterfinals

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's volleyball team finished the regular season on a three-match win streak following a 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-9) sweep against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Bryn Athyn College at home on Saturday afternoon. Before the match, the Highlanders honored their three seniors for their contributions to the program over the years, Kaitlyn Gedicks (Raymond, ME / Windham), Lizzy Fay (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) and Kali Burres-Cheeley (Wanaque, NJ / Hawthorne Christian).

Cairn (17-5, 7-2 CSAC) got quality offense early, taking a 10-1 lead in the first set on a run that included three service aces from sophomore Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School), before finishing off a 25-10 first set victory. Cairn dominated in set two, jetting out to a 21-3 advantage over Bryn Athyn (3-15, 3-6 CSAC) en-route to a 25-6 triumph, and handily finished off the Lions in set three to claim their third-consecutive sweep.

Cairn was led offensively by fifth-year Allison Barnes (Macungie, PA / Salem Christian) with a match-high 14 kills that included no errors to the tune of a .684 hitting percentage. Barnes added three solo blocks on the defensive front. Burres-Cheeley followed with nine kills and a team-high 11 digs, while Conrad added seven kills and eight digs. Junior Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) dished out a match-high 29 assists, while Fay posted 10 digs on the defensive end. Gedicks matched Conrad with a match-high four service aces. As a team, the Highlanders posted a .337 hitting percentage and 12 service aces.

With the win, the Highlanders clinched the No. 3 seed (their highest postseason seed since 2013) in the upcoming CSAC Championship Tournament, and will host No. 6 seed Wilson College in the conference quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 1 inside the Mason Activity Center. Time is TBA.
