CHAMBERSBURG, PA - Playing in their second of back-to-back road conference games, Cairn was unable to score a run in either of Saturday's doubleheaders games against the Wilson College Phoenix.
GAME ONE: The first two innings were relatively quiet for both teams, with Wilson holding a slim 1-0 lead thanks to a sacrifice bunt in the first inning. However, the Phoenix broke it open in the bottom of the third, plating six runs to go ahead 7-0. Wilson capped off their scoring with three more runs in the fourth inning, including a 3-RBI home run. Cairn got a runner in scoring position in the top of the fifth thanks to an
Elizabeth Malarski double, but were unable to capitalize, and the game was ended in the fifth inning with Wilson up 11-0.
Cairn was only able to go 2-17 at the plate as a team in game one; both hits belonged to Malarski and
Theresa Beck.
GAME TWO: The second game also started fairly slowly, with Wilson again holding a small lead of 2-0 going into the fourth inning. The Phoenix were able to add to their lead steadily over the next three innings, opening up things with another home run in the fourth. A few costly Highlander errors allowed Wilson baserunners to get on base and eventually score, driving up the final score to 8-0 for Wilson's second victory of the day.
Cairn was able to generate a bit more at the plate in game two, scattering five hits across six innings.
Olivia Nieto went 2-3, and
Jenna Kenyon went 1-2 with a walk.Â
Starting pitcher
Krista Earl scattered 4 earned runs over 5.2 innings pitched.
The Highlanders will get a well-deserved break for a few days before facing their next CSAC opponent, the Rosemont Ravens, on Thursday, 4/29. These games will also serve as a senior day celebration for the Highlanders' only senior,
Krista Earl.
