LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders treated the fans to a thriller Saturday afternoon in the season finale, playing a high-scoring overtime contest against the Wilson College Phoenix.
Â
Cairn started out on fire, playing stifling defense and knocking down a couple jumpers to take a 13-4 lead in the first quarter. The Highlanders played even in the second quarter as well, tying the Phoenix in the second quarter 18-apiece and taking a lead into the second half. The Highlanders battled in the second half, but Wilson slowly chipped away at their lead, making a couple clutch threes down the stretch to bring it closer and closer. Cairn clung to the lead as the game wound down, but Wilson knocked down a three with just 24 seconds left to tie the game. With momentum swung to Wilson, the Highlanders performed admirably in OT. Cairn scored a number of clutch buckets, but Wilson found their outside shooting stroke and narrowly defeated the Highlanders, 81-76.
Â
The Highlanders have reason for great optimism despite their record. Cairn played truly solid basketball nearly every game, but fell just short on a number of occasions. The Highlanders are just a piece or two away from being a threat to the top of the CSAC.
Â
Highlander faithful thanks for all of the support and following along this season, and a huge shout out to
Victoria Stum,
Charlotte Allen, and
