Langhorne, PA- After a busy Christmas break, the Highlanders returned home to restart CSAC play against the Gators of Notre Dame (MD) University.
Â
Cairn fought hard against the CSAC's top-ranked team, but a third quarter shooting slump was simploy too much for Cairn to overcome. The Highlanders started off with fire, playing swarming defense and jumping out to an 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Dakota Hitchner found her stroke from long range, knocking in multiple three pointers and finishing with 20 first half points to lead the Highlanders to a six point halftime lead. Hitchner's shooting and Tori Stum's commanding presence inside buoyed the Highlanders as Stum was able to control the paint. Unfortunately, the Highlanders offense slowed down and a swarming press from the Gators gave Notre Dame the third quarter lead. Cairn fought back in the fourth, losing the quarter by just 3 points, but the Highlanders could not overcome the third quarter deficit.
Â
Cairn will continue the busy CSAC schedule with three games this week, traveling to the College of Saint Elizabeth and Bryn Athyn College before hosting Centenary University at 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon.
