LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn Highlanders swept their longtime foes from Clarks Summit University Tuesday afternoon with scores of 6-0 in game 1 and 8-7 (8 innings) in game 2.
It was all Cairn in game number 1 as the Highlanders used 9 hits and took advantage of 5 Clarks Summit errors to score 6 runs and run away with game 1. After getting runners on in the first and not being able to push any runs across, the Highlanders would strike for 2 runs in the second.
Reaven East picked up the first RBI of the afternoon when she would reach on a fielder's choice plating
Krista Earl.
Tori Knox would also reach on a fielder's choice in the 2
nd to score
Grace Hardesty and give Cairn the 2-0 lead.
After a single in the 4
th from
Haley Tinney, Megan Maratita doubled to left field and Hinney would scamper home from first to increase the lead to 3-0. Later in the 5
th, Cairn would get hits from Tinney and
Tori Knox to add 2 more insurance runs.
Reaven East singled up the middle in the 6
th to plate
Angela Paskitti for the 6
th and final run to put a wrap on game 1.
In game 2 Cairn wasted little time jumping out to another lead when
Tori Knox singled up the middle to Score Tinney and Maratita. However the lead was short lived, as Clarks Summit would score 2 runs of their own in the top of the 2
nd.
The Defenders would then go on to score 3 runs to take a 5-2 lead in the top of the 5
th. Once again, that lead was short lived. In the bottom of the 5
th, Knox would double again to score Tinney and Maratita. Haley Wruck then came through with a 2 RBI single to score
Olivia Nieto and Knox. Later in the inning
Krista Earl would score Paskitti on a sacrifice fly. With the 5 runs in the inning, Cairn regained the lead 7-5.
In the top of the 6
th, the Defenders would tie the game with 2 runs of their own and that would give way to free softball in Langhorne. With Clarks Summit retired in order in the 8
th, it was the Highlanders chance to complete the sweep. Tinney would get things going by drawing a walk and advancing to second on a wild pitch. The junior captain would score the game winning run from second on a single to right field by
Tori Knox.
On the day, Knox would go 5-9 with 7 RBI's.
Krista Earl would pick up both wins in the circle for Cairn. The Highlanders will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they will host the University of Valley Forge in non-conference play. Before the game, the Highlanders will also honor the career of their one senior,
Katelynn Reiss.
