LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders hosted Bryn Athyn College Saturday afternoon, falling to the Lions in a spirited four set match.
Â
Prior to the start of the match, the Highlanders honored the excellent careers of captains
Liz White and
Brie Norton. The duo have been stalwarts for Cairn's program their entire careers and we thank them greatly for the many hours put in over their careers!
Â
On the court, Cairn battled hard. The Highlanders trailed 23-19 in the first set before mounting a 4 point run thanks to two kills from
Allison Barnes. Unfortunately, after clawing back to a score of 24-23, the Highlanders fell in the first set when Bryn Athyn picked up one final kill. The second set followed a much more preferable pattern as Cairn weathered the Lions' attacking storm and won the set 25-22 on a kill from Norton. After Bryn Athyn took the third set, the Highlanders battled back in the fourth. Cairn took a 10-8 lead, but the Lions notched 8 of the next 9 points to jump ahead 16-11. Kills by
Lyntia Gwess, Barnes, and Norton brought the Highlanders back, but they still trailed 23-19 with the game winding down. Two errors from the Lions, a kill from Gwess, and consecutive aces from Barnes gave the Highlanders the lead 24-23, but Bryn Athyn capitalized on three straight errors from Cairn to eke out the final set and the win.
Â
White notched 27 assists on her senior day, Norton finished with 7 kills and 8 digs, and Barnes (10 kills, 17 digs), and Gwess (13 kills, 18 digs) led the Highlanders in their final match.
