LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders wrapped up their incredibly successful season, hosting the Cedar Crest College Falcons for their last doubleheader of the season.
The Highlanders struggled in both games, managing only 5 runs despite eight hits in the afternoon's second contest. Haley Tinney, Krista Earl, and
Katelynn Reiss each managed two hits in the final contest to put the cap on another excellent season, while Jenna Alshay finished with a team high 2 RBIs in the second game to lead Cairn.
The Highlanders 18 wins were the most in program history, defeating the prior record of 17 in both 2008 and 2014. The Highlanders had a number of key performers break out this season, as McKenna Schindele (.302), Krista Earl (.340), Haley Tinney (.356),
Katelynn Reiss (.374), and Meagan Maratita (.389) each hit well above .300 to lead the Highlanders offensive attack. In addition to setting the wins record, the Highlanders set a number of individual records as well. Haley Tinney performed excellently atop the lineup as the sophomore set the mark for most runs in a season with 38 and walks in a season with 23. Meagan Maratita put together a simply stellar offensive season as well, ranking 5
th for hits in a season (42), 2
nd for RBIs (31), and 2
nd in total bases (59). Krista Earl also put together one of the finest freshman campaigns in Cairn history, finishing with the 2
nd best ERA (3.41), the most wins by an incredible 6 with 16 wins, the 3
rd most appearances (30), the most shutouts (4), 2
nd most innings (158), and an absolutely dazzling 184 strikeouts to lead the CSAC and set the all-time Cairn mark by 111 strikeouts!
The Highlanders return everyone from this season's stellar squad next year and will look forward to continued success on the backs of their strong, young squad.
