LANGHORNE, PA- After a hard-fought contest, the Highlanders simply could not withstand the Mighty Macs hot-shooting fourth quarter, dropping the match by a final score of 58-70.
Â
Seeking their second CSAC win of the season the Highlanders played their hearts out in their first home match of the second semester. Despite missing do-everything guard
Kendra Stum, the Highlanders started off quickly as Tori Stum and
Aigner Bookard blitzed the Mighty Mac defense for 8 straight points to give Cairn an early lead. The Mighty Macs did bounce back, whipping the ball around the scrambling Highlander zone for open shots, but Coach
Walt Zamroz countered with the debut of forward Jana Goodman. On a minutes restriction due to injury, Goodman's impact was limited to two minutes per quarter, but the sophomore made the most of her time finishing four post moves with ease to tally 8 points in only four first half minutes. Behind Goodman's offensive boost and an excellent first half from Bookard (10 points) the Highlanders trailed by one point.
Â
Both team's offensive efforts ground to a halt in the third quarter as each team used a press to frustrate the other.
Charlotte Camp splashed a jumper with 1:30 left to bring the Highlanders back to within one point at the end of the third quarter. Unfortunately, in the beginning of the fourth quarter the Highlanders conceded a 20-3 run, as Mighty Mac guard Dia Venziano made 5 of her 6 shots to pull Immaculata ahead. The Highlanders were unable to come back after such a tough stretch and dropped the game by a final score of 58-70.
Â
Tori Stum led the Highlanders with 14 points and 8 rebounds, while
Aigner Bookard scored 12 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
