ABINGTON, PA- The Highlanders traveled to Abington, PA to take on the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions, losing a close game after a tough 2
nd quarter.
Â
The Highlanders faced a tough battle going into tonight's matchup as sharpshooting guard
Kendra Stum played with a minutes limitation due to injury. Seeking offense from new sources, the Highlanders struggled a bit over the opening half, succumbing to a 22-10 run by the Nittany Lions in the second quarter. The Highlanders did clean up their efforts on the glass, led by Tori Stum with 7 rebounds, but turnover troubles contributed greatly to the Highlanders first half deficit.
Â
Seeking a replacement for Stum's shooting, Coach
Walt Zamroz replaced her minutes with freshman Jenna Krage, and perhaps finding a spark for the rest of the season, Krage played an excellent second half for the Highlanders. The freshman guard shot a perfect 4-4 from three point range, pairing with Tori Stum to lead the Highlanders over the final two frames. Cairn beat PSU-Abington in both the 3
rd and the 4
th quarter, but was unable to overcome their first half deficit, falling by a final score of 49-62. Tori Stum led Cairn with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Krage chipped in 12 of her own and 3 assists. The Highlanders have shown marked improvement in each game this season and will need to be firing on all cylinders when they travel to Scranton, PA to take on Marywood University in the first CSAC matchup of the season.
