LANGHORNE, PA- In their second game of the season, the Highlanders were outpaced by the impressive three point attack of the City College of New York Beavers.
Â
Cairn started out hot, racing to a 4-0 lead thanks to jumpers from
Charlotte Camp and
Kendra Stum. The Beavers answered quickly with two straight three pointers from Debra Chan, a theme that would manifest itself repeatedly throughout the rest of the day's proceedings. Thanks to a couple acrobatic layups from junior
Payton Emerick and a flurry of jumpers from
Kendra Stum, the Highlanders were able to keep up with the Beavers over the first two quarters of play. Seemingly every time Cairn would bring the game within one basket, a crucial three pointer or offensive rebound from the Beavers would stretch the game to a wider margin. Cairn entered the break trailing by a score of 26-36.
Â
The Highlanders scored the first 6 of the second half to close the gap, but CCNY would mount an 8 point run of their own to open the game back up. The Highlanders struggled with turnovers in the second half and CCNY's relentless three point attack, as well as the exit of guard
Kendra Stum from the game, led to the Highlanders eventual defeat by a final score of 48-78. The Highlanders again showed flashes of offensive brilliance and focus on defense, but the young team still has yet to put all the pieces together. The Highlanders were led by
Kendra Stum with 12 points, Tori Stum with a near double-double of 9 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Jenna Krage tallied Cairn's only 2 three pointers of the afternoon.
Â
Cairn will travel to Abington on Tuesday, 11/21, to face off against PSU-Abington at 6:00 PM.
