Langhorne, PA – The Cairn women's tennis team fell to Neumann University on Tuesday evening by a 6-3 final score. Cairn held a 2-1 lead through doubles play, but could not hold on as they went 1-5 through singles play before falling to the Knights.
Rebecca Graber won the lone singles match for the Highlanders in the number one singles position, defeating Sophie Brink (6-2, 6-0). The singles victory is Graber's 30th collegiate win. She pulls to within two of the all-time Cairn women's tennis mark held by Katelynn Wilson of 32.
In doubles play, Graber teamed up with
Bianca Birney two pick up one of two doubles wins for the Highlanders. Graber and Birney defeated the team of Sophie Brink and Francess Bockary in the number one spot 8-1.
The doubles team of
Ricki White and
Angela James picked up an 8-3 victory over Danielle Rush and Paige Clift in the number three doubles spot.
The final singles match of the night between Cairn's
Kara Williams and Neumann's Lilly Escobar went long into the night with Escobar coming from behind to defeat Williams 1-6, 7-5 (11-9) in a heartbreaker.
Cairn will next take the court on Friday when they host Cedar Crest College at 3:30 p.m. to continue their CSAC schedule.
