La Plume, PA - The Cairn Highlanders won their first match of the 2016 season in convincing fashion over the Clarks Summit on Tuesday afternoon. The Highlanders defeated the Defenders 8-1, dropping just one singles match on the afternoon.

The match that was originally schedule to be played at Clarks Summit's campus was moved to Keystone's home courts. Playing at a neutral site for the first time since Oct. 13, 2007 (a 9-0 loss to Keuka College in Harrisburg, PA), the Highlanders swept through doubles play. Rebecca Graber and Bianca Birney played in the number one doubles match and defeated Veronica Hernandez and Chelsea Miller 8-2.

In the second doubles match Angela James and Ricki White took down Justine Makinson and Sabrina Stratton 8-1. While the team of Maya Neal and Kara Williams picked up a forfeit victory.

In singles play, Maya Neal turned in the strongest showing for Cairn. Neal swept her opponent in the number four match 6-0, 6-0. Rebecca Graber and Bianca Birney each defeated their foe, 6-1, 6-1 in the number one and three matches respectively.

The Highlanders also picked up forfeit wins in the number five and six matches of singles play with Ricki White and Angela James earning the victories.

Cairn will next take the court when they host Penn State - Abington on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
