Langhorne, PA - On Thursday evening the Cairn Women's Volleyball team opened their season on the road against the Albright Lions. The Lions took home a straight-sets, 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-15) victory over the Highlanders.
Whitney Seidel led the Highlanders with six kills on the match.
The Highlanders went down early in the first set, trailing 17-4 to start the match. After a timeout by Cairn, the Highlanders won three of the next four points to close the gap to 18-7. The deficit proved to be too much as Albright won seven of the final 10 point to come away with the 25-10 victory in set one.
Set two began much like set one, with the Highlanders struggling to mount an attack as the Lions jumped out to a 10-1 lead. Cairn did however rattle off three straight points to close the gap to 13-5 when a
Whitney Seidel kill was sandwiched between a pair of Albright attacking errors. With another strong finish to the set, the Lions came away with set two by a score of 25-9.
Set three started in stark contrast to the first two games. The Lions and Highlanders were trading points for the opening third of the set. The two foes stood level at 7-7 thanks to a key service ace by
Brie Norton and kills by Seidel and
Amanda Andujar. With the score tied 7-7, Albright used an 8-2 run to take a 15-9 advantage before closing out the set, and the match, by a score of 25-15.
As mentioned, Seidel led Cairn with six kills,
Brie Norton added three kills of her own.
Liz White picked up eight assists, a service ace, and a block to lead the Highlanders in all three categories.
Cairn will next take the floor on Sept. 6 at Clarks Summit University at 7:00 p.m.
