Media, PA – The Highlanders defeated the Nittany Lions of Penn State Brandywine 5-4 on Thursday afternoon in their second match of the spring season. Cairn improved to 6-10 overall this year with the win and will have one more match remaining before the end of the season.
In doubles competition, Graber and Keating teamed up in the no. 1 position and won a commanding, 8-1 match. Derus and White won the no. 2 doubles match 8-5 to put the Highlanders up 2-1 early on. Brandywine collected a win in the no. 3 doubles match after a Cairn forfeit.
Rebecca Graber swept her opponent in the no. 1 singles position with shutout wins of 6-0, 6-0.
Julia Derus also picked up a win in the no. 2 singles spot with a 6-0, 6-2 win. Cairn took home three singles wins after
Sara Keating won her match 6-4, 6-2.
Ricki White and Regina Younger both dropped their singles matches in the no. 4 and no. 5 positions. Brandywine also collected a singles win from a second Cairn forfeit.
The Nittany Lions dropped to 3-3 this season with the loss. Cairn will look ahead to their final match of the year when they travel to Cabrini College next Monday, April 25th.
