Highlanders Drop Twin Bill On Road To Patriots

Phoenixville, PA – The Highlanders had their best offensive performances of the season on Tuesday at the University of Valley Forge but ultimately dropped both games to the Patriots. Cairn scored eight runs on nine hits in game one and nine runs on 12 hits in game two but Valley Forge put up 17 runs in each game to take the wins.
 
Katelyn Loveless picked up the losses from the circle for the Highlanders, while Rachel Daniels collected two wins for the Patriots. Loveless had three strikeouts over the two games but walked 29 batters on the day.
 
Keely Congleton and Rachel Clark both went 2-3 from the plate in game one, with Clark also hitting a double and driving in two runs. Congleton and Alexandra Nathan were responsible for scoring two runs each.
 
Kaitlin Gibbs and Katelyn Reiss stepped up in game two and each batter went 3-4, while Gibbs drove in three runs. Katelyn Johnson was 2-4 in the game with two RBI, while Jessica Rolo scored three runs.
 
The Highlanders went down early on in game two of the doubleheader 11-1 but cut the lead down to 12-6 after a five-run third inning. Gibbs and Clark both doubled to drive in runs, while Johnson singled for an RBI. Cairn added one more run in the fourth before Valley Forge scored five runs in the fourth inning and secured the win.
 
Cairn dropped to 0-8 overall with the losses, while Valley Forge improved to 2-8 this season with the wins. The Highlanders will next host Arcadia University on Thursday, March 31st, at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader.
