Langhorne, PA – Cairn University hosted Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon, where the Gators defeated the Highlanders 67-53.
Payton Emerick and
Kendra Stum led the Highlanders with two double doubles; Stum with 14 points and rebounds, while Emerick put up 13 of each.
The Highlanders shot just 26% from the field and 15% from the free throw line, contributing to the loss. The Gators, on the other hand, shot 42% from the field and 39% from three-point range. Stephanie Roche led the Gators in scoring with 21 points (7-11 3FG).
Cairn led early on in the game, 12-6, but the Gators came back to lead after the first quarter 19-14. Notre Dame increased on their lead through the second quarter to take a halftime lead of 37-28. Despite outscoring the Gators in the fourth quarter, the Highlanders couldn't recover from the deficit and lost their second game of the season to Notre Dame.
Zaria Comer led the Gators in rebounding with 13, while also putting up 14 points in the game. Justice Walrath dished out six assists for Notre Dame and scored eight points.
Aigner Bookard scored nine points for the Highlanders and was 3-4 from the free throw line. The Highlanders had just six assists as a team, compared to 11 for the Gators.
With the loss, Cairn dropped to 5-18 overall and 4-10 in the conference. Notre Dame improved to 8-15 overall and 4-11 in the conference with the win. The Highlanders will next travel to Cedar Crest College on Wednesday, Feb. 17, before returning home next Saturday to host Summit University for senior day.
