Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders' women's tennis team dropped their second 5-4 match of the season on Saturday afternoon, this one to Delaware Valley University. Cairn took one of the doubles matches and followed that up with three of the singles matches for their four points.
Rebecca Graber and
Julia Derus started things off with a big 8-3 win in their doubles match. The duo took a quick 6-1 lead before Oszvart and Mayhew caught up to 6-3. However, Graber and Derus finished strong, taking the last two games.
The Aggies eeked out a 9-7 win in the no. 2 doubles match over
Lauren Caruso and
Sara Keating.
Kara Williams and
Ricki White dropped their no. 3 doubles match 8-1 to the Aggies.
Graber (6-3, 6-3), Derus (6-2, 6-1), and Keating (6-3, 6-2) all won their singles matches with strong play and hard work. Morgan Moore defeated
Ricki White in the no. 6 spot 6-0, 6-0 and Alexandra Vaccaro defeated
Kara Williams at the no. 5 spot.
With the match all tied up at 4-4, the final point came down to
Lauren Caruso in the no. 3 singles spot. Caruso lost the first set 6-4 and tied the second set at 5-5. However, Natalie Hoffman finished off the match 7-5, winning the last two games.
With the loss, Cairn dropped to 0-2 on the season, while Delaware Valley improved to 1-0 to start their 2015 campaign. The Highlanders will return to action this Friday, Sept. 11, when they host Cabrini College at 3:30 p.m.
