Langhorne, PA – The Cairn women's tennis team improved to 2-1 in the CSAC this afternoon after defeating Summit University 8-1 at home. After defeating Rosemont 9-0 on Monday, the Highlanders picked up where they left off to get their second win within the conference this season.
In singles competition, Cairn had three players who all won with scored of 6-0, 6-0, shutting out their opponent.
Rebecca Graber (no. 1 singles),
Sara Keating (no. 4 singles), and
Kara Williams (no. 5 singles) all took wins without giving up a set in the match.
At no. 3 singles,
Samantha Shroyer performed well and defeated Chelsea Miller 6-1, 6-3.
Julia Derus had a little more trouble winning her singles match against Veronica Hernandez at no. 2 singles, but came away with the win 7-6 (7-5), 6-0.
Graber and Derus continued their winning ways at no. 1 doubles with an 8-1 win over Bliss Lecea and Veronica Hernandez. Keating and Shroyer also succeeded at their no. 2 doubles match with an 8-1 score.
Ricki White and
Kara Williams won their no. 3 doubles match with less dominance than their teammates, but nonetheless pulled out an 8-5 win.
Cairn improved to 2-3 overall this season, while Summit dropped to 0-5 for the year. The Highlanders will return to action tomorrow, Sept. 19, when they travel to Marywood University to take on the Pacers.
