Langhorne, PA – Cairn University women's tennis dropped their first CSAC matchup of the 2015 season with a 6-3 loss to Cabrini College on Friday afternoon. The result is an improvement over last year however, when they lost to the Cavaliers by a score of 8-1.
The Highlanders started out the afternoon going 1-2 in doubles matches, winning the no. 1 doubles with the pair of
Rebecca Graber and
Julia Derus. The sophomore and freshman duo defeated Terra McHenry and Elena Conway 8-6.
Graber had to work hard but she also came away with the win in the no. 1 singles spot over McHenry in a three set, tie-breaker thriller.
Julia Derus lost her first single matchup of the season, which also went into a third-set tie-breaker againt Nicole Broccolino in the no. 2 position.
A third singles match was played into a third-set tie-breaker on the Highlanders courts; the final one went to
Sara Keating in the no. 5 spot. Keating defeated Stefanie Barkofski 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-7) to earn her second win of the year.
With the loss, Cairn University fell to 0-3 this season and 0-1 in the CSAC, while Cabrini improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12, to take on the Falcons of Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa.
