Results Langhorne, PA – Cairn University women's tennis competed in their first, and only, spring match of the 2014-15 season this afternoon when they lost a 5-2 match to Cabrini College. This is also the first time that the Cairn women's tennis team has taken advantage of the split season that the NCAA allows for in tennis.
This was not considered a conference match though, since the CSAC only hosts a women's tennis championship in the fall. However, because both of these teams primarily compete in the fall, both squads only consisted of five girls instead of the usual six.
The Highlanders won two of the five singles matches and the Cavaliers won both of the doubles matches as well as the other three singles.
The afternoon started with the doubles matches, which were won 8-3 and 8-0 for the Cavaliers.
Rebecca Graber teamed up with
Sara Keating in the No. 1 spot and
Lauren Shidel paired with
Carly Eubank in the No. 2 spot.
Rebecca Graber went on to win her match in the No. 1 singles spot, picking up where she left off in the fall. Graber defeated Samantha Trumbo 6-3 in both sets.
Sara Keating then won her matchup in the No. 4 slot; 7-5, 6-2 against Maggie Javitt.
Regina Younger pushed Kimberly Pepenella to a seven-game second set but ultimately fell 6-3, 7-5.
The loss adds to the Highlanders overall record this year and brings them to 4-12. Cabrini improved to 14-6 in 2014-15 after collecting the win. Cairn will hopefully build off of the ability to play and practice this spring and continue into the fall of 2015.
