Gwynedd Valley, PA - The Cairn women's basketball team ended their 2014-15 campaign tonight when they traveled to Gwynedd Mercy University and lost 87-33.
Amy Faust led the team with one of her best performances of the year: 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Highlanders had not played the Griffins since before the winter break but they lost by a similar score of 93-38. Faust was 5-9 shooting from the floor in tonight's game, and went 2-4 from the free throw line.
Amie Eppolito followed her with 10 points and five rebounds.
Gwynedd Mercy was led by Natasha Matthews with 16 points; she also pulled down seven rebounds. Charlotte Kucowski led the Griffins in rebounding with nine in the game. As a team, the Griffins shot 50% from the floor and 26% from three-point range.
The Griffins started out the game on a 16-0 run and would eventually build a lead of 47-16 at the end of the first half. Eppolito collected seven of her 10 points in the first half.
Regina Younger made the only three-pointer of the half, despite 10 attempts by the Highlanders. Cairn only committed one foul in the first half though, leading to zero free-throw attempts by the Griffins.
Cairn went on in the second half to score 16 points to Gwynedd Mercy's 40 for a final score of 87-33.
Kristen Castner and
Tori Moll both went on to finish with four points in the game for Cairn. Castner also pulled down six rebounds.
With the result, Cairn has finished their season with a 2-20 overall record and 0-16 conference record. Gwynedd Mercy improved to 15-9 overall and 11-4 in the CSAC. The Highlanders do not have any graduating seniors this year and will look forward to improving the squad for next year.
