Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eppolito's 29 Not Enough To Beat Nittany Lions

Langhorne, PA – Cairn women's basketball fell to 0-2 on the season with a 87-49 loss to Penn State Hazleton on Wednesday evening. The Highlanders were outscored by 10 or more points in the final three quarters of the game in the loss.

The women were led by Amie Eppolito (Levittown, PA) with 29 points after she went 10-28 from the field with five three-pointers. Eppolito also had seven rebounds, but led the team in turnovers with 10.

Four other Highlanders collected four points in the game, as the next closest scorers to Eppolito. Devon Rink (Perkasie, PA) and Amy Faust (Alburtis, PA) were among them; they also had five rebounds each. Payton Emerick (Hyndman, PA) tied Eppolito in rebounding with seven.

Hazleton's McKenzie Prutsman led the Nittany Lions in scoring with 22 points. Prutsman was perfect from three-point range (2-2) and from the free-throw line (4-4).  Alexis Daly followed Prutsman with 17 points and led the team in rebounding with nine boards.

Cairn led the game 10-8 halfway through the first quarter but all of those 10 points came from Eppolito. The Nittany Lions finished out the first quarter on a 9-0 run and the Highlanders did not see a lead or tie the rest of the game.

The Highlanders cut the lead to three points in the second quarter but Hazleton quickly responded with a 14-0 run to finish out the quarter in three minutes. Cairn could not recover from that and Hazleton controlled the second half of the game to win 87-49.

With the loss, Cairn dropped to 0-2 on the season, while Penn State Hazleton improved to 4-1 overall with the win. The Highlanders will next host New Jersey City University this Saturday, 11/21, at 1 p.m.
