Results Allentown, PA – Cairn women's tennis lost their third match of the season by just one point, 5-4, after facing off against Cedar Crest College on Thursday afternoon. The match was a reschedule after the two teams had started their doubles matches previously but had to stop due to rain.
After continuing the doubles matches,
Rebecca Graber (Atglen, PA/Octorara) and
Julia Derus (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township H.S.) won their match 8-3 in the no. 1 spot.
Lauren Caruso (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) and
Sara Keating (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) were defeated by the Falcons 8-5, and
Kara Williams (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock H.S.) and
Samantha Shroyer (Dawsonville, GA) lost their no. 3 doubles match 8-4.
Derus and Graber both went on to win their singles matches 6-2, 6-0, and 6-2, 6-4, respectively. Shroyer also went on to win her singles match at the no. 5 spot 7-5, 6-3.
Kara Williams (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock H.S.) was defeated in the no. 6 spot 7-5, 6-1.
Cedar Crest then won three singles matches of their own to secure the overall victory. Two of those matches were forced into third sets to make that feat more difficult.
Lauren Caruso (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) fell in her no. 3 singles matchup 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Sara Keating (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) also went to three sets but lost 6-0, 5-7, 6-3.
With the loss, Cairn dropped to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Cedar Crest improved to 4-4 overall with the win and 3-3 in the CSAC. The Highlanders will next host Keystone College on Saturday, Oct. 10, with a 12 p.m. start time.
