Galloway, NJ – The Highlanders traveled to Stockton University on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Ospreys and were handed their first shutout defeat of the season. Stockton proved to have the upper hand throughout the match and didn't allow the Highlanders to win more than four games in a set.
Cairn dropped to 3-6 overall with the loss, while Stockton improved to 6-2 overall with the win. Given it was the Highlanders first shutout loss of the season, it was also
Rebecca Graber (Atglen, PA/Octorara)'s first singles loss of the season as the no. 1 singles player. Graber took the loss to Summer Conover 6-4, 6-3.
Samantha Shroyer (Dawsonville, GA), in the no. 5 spot, was defeated with a similar score at 6-3, 6-4 to Brynn Buechler. The other singles matches for the Highlanders fell with scores of either 6-0, 6-0 or 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action, Graber and
Julia Derus (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township H.S.) lost with an 8-3 score, while
Kara Williams (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock H.S.) and Shroyer were defeated 8-2.
Sara Keating (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) and
Lauren Caruso (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) lost an 8-0 match at the no. 2 doubles spot.
The Highlanders will next travel to Cedar Crest College tomorrow, Oct. 8, to finish a match with the Falcons that was called early on due to rain.
