Aston, PA – Cairn women's tennis got back into the win column on Friday evening with an 8-1 victory over conference foe Neumann University. The Highlanders improved to 5-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference with the win, while the Knights dropped to 3-10 overall and 1-8 in the CSAC with the loss.
The Highlanders' only loss in the match came in the no. 1 doubles match with a 9-7 score.
Rebecca Graber (Atglen, PA/Octorara) and
Julia Derus (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township H.S.) fell to Talene Brinker and Sarah Schroeder for their fourth doubles loss of the season.
Sara Keating (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) and
Lauren Caruso (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) pulled out a well-fought win in the no. 2 doubles spot with an 8-6 victory over Lilly Escobar and Angaline Salvucci.
Kara Williams (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock H.S.) and
Samantha Shroyer (Dawsonville, GA) won the no. 3 doubles match with an 8-1 score.
The Highlanders then won all of their singles matches with relative ease. Graber, Derus, Keating, Shroyer, and Williams all won their matches without dropping more than two games in each set. Caruso's match was a slightly different story, as Escobar gave her some trouble.
Caruso lost the first set to Escobar 6-4 but followed that up with a 6-2 win in the second set. They went into a tiebreaker third set where Caruso finished off the match with a 10-1 win.
The Highlanders will finish off their regular season tomorrow, Oct. 17, when they travel to Immaculata University for a 1 p.m. match.
