Results Langhorne, PA – The Cairn women's tennis team defeated Keystone College on Saturday afternoon, 7-2, to improve to 3-4 in the conference. The Highlanders won two out of the three doubles matches and five out of the six singles match in the victory.
Julia Derus (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township H.S.) and
Rebecca Graber (Atglen, PA/Octorara) picked up a shutout win in the no. 1 doubles match, followed by an 8-3 victory for
Sara Keating (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) and
Lauren Caruso (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson). Derus remained unbeaten for the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win in her no. 2 singles match.
Graber won her singles match easily with a 6-1, 6-1 match; Keating also made quick work of her no. 4 singles match with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Caruso also won her singles match at the no. 3 spot with a 7-5, 6-0 victory.
The match was also senior day for both
Sara Keating (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) and
Lauren Caruso (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) and they were honored and thanked for their work on the tennis team before the match.
Kara Williams (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock H.S.) was the final Highlander to pick up a win in her singles match. She had to go into a third set but finished it off with a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) result. Williams and
Ricki White () were defeated at the no. 3 doubles spot 8-2.
With the win, Cairn improved to 4-7 overall, and with the loss Keystone dropped to 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference. The Highlanders will next host Notre Dame of Maryland University on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m.
