Women's Soccer Take Down Mighty Macs, Earn First CSAC Win of the Year

Box Score IMMACULATA, PA - The Lady Highlanders were back in action Wednesday afternoon as they traveled to conference rival Immaculata University, to take on the Mighty Macs. A game that saw the Highlanders come out on top with a 2-0 victory.

Box Score (coming soon)

On a cloudy and windy day, the Highlanders saw all of their hard work, come together and defeat Immaculata 2-0. The majority of the first half was played in the midfield as each team was not able to breakthrough and figure out their opponents defenses. It was not until the 43rd minute when Alicia Curry received a pass at the top of the 18 from Courtney Novak and blasted it past the keeper, giving the Highlanders a 1-0 lead going into the half. Curry managed to fire four shots on the afternoon, three on goal, and she was able to find the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

The Highlander offense was too much for the Mighty Macs to handle, and in the 53rd minute, Courtney Novak slipped behind defense to net her sixth goal of the season giving Cairn a 2-0 lead. Mackenzie Paugh earned her second shut out of the season, making five saves on 12 Immaculata shots.  Paugh's biggest save came in the 65th minute as an Immaculata player was on a breakaway, Paugh came out of her net to come up with the big save, preserving the shut out victory.

"Great win for the Lady Highlanders. ,We took advantage of every offense opportunity we had, and are settling into our system a lot more. ,I am excited for our team to develop as the year goes on" said Highlanders Head Coach Laura Behnke, now in her fourth year at the helm, ,

Cairn will take a break from conference play on Saturday as they will head to Lancaster, to take on the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College. ,The teams split contests last season each on the others field, with Cairn getting the better of the Chargers, beating them 4-0 to seal their ticket representing the East Region in the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.
