Highlanders Take Two at Penn State Abington Quad Tournament

Abington, PA: The Highlanders participated in the Penn State Abington Quad Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Cairn went 2-1 on the day.

After dropping the opening game against Immaculata in a non-league matchup, the Highlanders were able to bounce back to pick up wins against Notre Dame (MD) and the host Lions.

Immaculata took the first game of the day 3-1. Despite Cairn winning the first set, the Mighty Macs took three sets in a row from the Highlanders.  Brigid Shehan led the Cairn attack posting 13 kills. She also led the Highlanders with a team high 14 digs. Sami Delfino recorded 32 set assists. Delfino and Kate Steger each added 11 digs.

Cairn won a five set thriller in game two 3-2 over Notre Dame of Maryland in another non–league game. Finding themselves down early after dropping the first two sets the Highlanders battled back to win the final three sets of the match including a 15-13 barn burner in the fifth set. Stegar led the offense with 18 kills with Shehan hitting double digits as well with 11.  Delfino recorded 33 set assists for her high mark of the tournament.  Shehan and Delfino also had stellar defensive games combining for 37 digs, with Shehan recording a tournament team high 21.

The Highlanders capped off the day defeating the host Lions in straight sets 3-0. Shehan led the Highlanders with 10 kills adding 11 digs.  Whitney Seidel recorded 9 kills with 6 digs.  Delfino dished out 27 set assists with Kelsey Johnson chipping in 12 digs on the defensive side of the floor.

Cairn will stay on the road this week traveling to Valley Forge Christian College Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. matchup in Phoenixville.
