Box Score Phoenixville, PA- The Lady Highlanders traveled to Valley Forge Christian College today and walked away with a loss, falling 72-44, as they were unable overcome the high-powered scoring attack of the Patriots.
Box Score
The Lady Highlanders came out hot off the jump, matching the Patriots basket-for-basket throughout the first eight minutes, and even gaining an 11-9 lead during this beginning stretch. After this period though, the Lady Highlanders offense unfortunately fell cold, and Valley Forge was able to exploit the offensive woes of Cairn to the tune of a 20-0 run that blew the game wide open. Cairn's women, behind a number of
Elizabeth Joy Hartzler jumpers, went on a mini-run to end the half and bring things as close as thirteen points; but a three pointer from Valley Forge concluded the scoring and sent the Highlanders into the break trailing, 34-18.
The Lady Highlanders fought valiantly in the second half, and back-to-back three pointers from guards
Amie Eppolito and
Regina Younger brought Cairn within ten points of the Patriots midway through the second period. Foul trouble took its toll on the Lady Highlanders though, as each Cairn starter finished the contest with three or more fouls, and Cairn totaled nearly twice as many fouls as the Patriots. Despite their best efforts to come back, in the end Cairn fell by a score of 72-44.
The Lady Highlanders top performers for the night were:
Elizabeth Joy Hartzler (13 points, 4 rebounds)
Emily Tambussi (13 points, 9 rebounds)
Whitney Seidel (9 rebounds)
The Lady Highlanders will take on the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University Monday night at 6:00 PM in their second to last CSAC contest of the season.
