Eppolito Nets Career High, Highlanders Fall to Trinity

Box Score Washington, DC- The Lady Highlanders travelled to Washington, DC today and battled hard, but eventually fell to the Trinity University Tigers 66-48.

Box Score

The Lady Highlanders had an excellent first half, largely due to their sophomore captain Amie Eppolito and her 16 first half points.  Only three players scored for the Lady Highlanders in the first half, and despite this fact, Cairn only trailed by four points, 29-33 going into the break.  EJ Hartzler and Emily Tambussi chipped in 7 and 6 points respectively to round out the Lady Highlanders scoring in the first half.

The Tigers came out of the break with renewed aggression and slowly began to chip at the Lady Highlanders by the means of physical play, rebounding, and three point shooting.  The Lady Highlanders continued to battle, as their small scrappy squad always does, but the attacking play of Trinity was ultimately too much as they were outscored by fourteen points in the second half and fell 66-48.

Eppolito continued her excellent play this season managing to post a career high 27 points, going along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists.  Tambussi and Brigid Shehan each added another double digit rebound game to their ledger with 10 rebounds each.  Freshman EJ Hartzler scored 9 points and added 6 rebounds, an impressive feat for the guard.

The Lady Highlanders will travel to Valley Forge Christian College Monday night and seek another victory at 7:00 PM.
