Cairn Falls To Marywood 9-0 After Singles Battle

Results

Langhorne, PA - On senior night, the Cairn Highlanders fell to the Marywood Pacers on Friday night 9-0 after a long battle in the No.1 singles matchup. Before the match started, Natalie Livingston and Sara Breyer were recognized as the seniors who are playing their final season at Cairn.

On the doubles side, Cairn was overpowered by Marywood's strong teams and lost 8-5 (No. 1), 8-3 (No. 2), and 8-0 (No. 3). In the No. 1 match, Rebecca Graber and Natalie Livingston broke serve to open the match 1-0 and broke again, down 4-1, to bring the score to 4-3.

At the No. 2 doubles, Lauren Shidel and Sara Keating were down 3-0 early but broke serve to come back to 3-2. Avery McCall and Becca Lukasak pulled away from there and won 8-3.

Graber and Megan Nastelli played the match of the night in a tough, back-and-forth fight. They matched each other point for point in the first set and forced a tiebreak at 6-6. Nastelli got the better of Graber and won the tiebreak 7-3. Despite the experience of the senior from Marywood, Graber's natural talent shown through.

In the second set, Graber looked strong towards the end and broke serve late to win 6-4. After some deliberation with the coaches, the players decided to play a full third set to determine the victor. Ultimately, the experience won out in the match and Nastelli completed the 9-0 shutout with a 6-1 score.

With the team loss, Cairn dropped to 3-11 overall and 3-6 in the CSAC. Marywood continued their strong play this season and improved to 10-1 overall and 9-1 in the CSAC. The Highlanders will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Notre Dame of Maryland for a match at 1:00 p.m.
