Clarks Summit, PA - In a straight-set loss to the Defenders of Baptist Bible College, Brigid Shehan broke the school record for career digs with nine in the match. Shehan surpassed the previous record of 1374 and now has 1379 for her career. The senior also collected four kills and three blocks in the CSAC matchup.
With the loss, Cairn drops their overall record to 8-13 and 3-2 in the conference. Baptist Bible improves their overall record to 5-16 and their CSAC record to 2-3 this year.
The previous career digs record was held by Rebecca Williams '08, which has stood for the past five seasons. Only Shehan, Williams and Betsy Rank '09 have been able to surpass the 1000 digs number over their careers at Cairn.Â
Kate Steger led the Highlanders in the match with 11 kills and a .266 attack percentage. Sam Delfino added 20 assists in the three-set loss.
The match stayed evenly played through the first set until a six-point run for the Defenders gave them a 17-10 lead. Baptist Bible closed out the first set 25-16 and picked up where they left off by taking a 6-1 lead in the second set.Â
Cairn brought the set back to 10-7 but Baptist Bible went on another long run to lead 21-9 and finished the set at 25-15. Unfortunately for Cairn it was the same story in the third set. The Highlanders leveled the score at 9-9 but the Defenders eeked out a lead that was too large to overcome and the third set ended at 25-16.
The Highlanders will try to get back on a win streak when they take on Delaware Valley College on Monday, Oct. 13, at 7:00 p.m.
