Rebecca Hardman andÂ
Liana Jensen helped give Cairn a 2-1 lead after the Giants were forced to forfeit one doubles match.
However, in the singles portion of the day the Giants took four of six to secure a five to four win over the Highlanders. Hardman went perfect on the day for Cairn, earning a 6-4, 6-4 win in her singles matchup. Sarah Breyer was credited with a win by default as Keystone struggled with numbers.
"Hardman was a true standout in today's matches", said Cairn's coach Ken Wilson. "Winning in doubles and singles, Rebecca positioned Cairn to a good chance for a conference win. Her effort was a coaches' motivation. She demonstrated what each of our players are capable of performing. We have hope for a great success this year with such effort."
In a tough, back and forth battle, the Highlanders almost had a chance to steal the win with freshmanÂ
Sarah Doorly battling Keystone's Megan Vesey. After barely dropping the first set, 7-5, things were forced to a tie-breaker in when the second set finished 7-6. In the tie-breaker, Vesey edged out Doorly 7-5.
With the loss, the Highlanders slip to 1-5 on the season and 0-4 in CSAC play.
This upcoming Monday will give Cairn an opportunity to end their four-game skid when they host non-conference Lancaster Bible College.
