Nicole Spicer wasted little time in setting a new mark for herself. Against the Spartans, Spicer tallied a game-high 15 kills, helping the Highlanders to a hard-fought 3-2 win.

Emily Mayer also reached double-digits in kills, recording 13 and 11 respectively.Â
Erin Greenwood tallied a season-high 44 helpers.
In the first set, Cairn found themselves trailing 22-19 before they rallied off six consecutive points to steal the set. The Spartans returned the favor in the second set, pipping the Highlanders to tie things up. Cairn were leading 20-18 before dropping the set 25-22.
After trading sets, the Highlanders eventually pulled things out with a 15-11 fifth set win, to claim the 3-2 win.
Cairn had a tougher time of things in their second match of the day against the Dragons of SUNY Cortland. The Highlanders had trouble getting their attack going, with the Dragons recording a remarkable 21 blocks. Behind their strong defensive play, SUNY Cortland handed the Highlanders just their 3rd defeat of the season, 25-20, 25-14. 25-19.
Cairn returns to the court tomorrow for the second day of competition, taking on Salisbury University and host Elizabethtown College.
