The Patriots started things off with a 3-pt FG after just a minute and at that point began building their lead. Halfway through the first half, Valley Forge reached a double-digit lead of 11 at 18-7. With a 1:27 left in the period, the Patriots would tie their widest margin of the night at 15, holding onto a 34-19 lead. Cairn would make it 34-21 going into the half.

For the opening 13 minutes of the second half, not much changed with Valley Forge in cruise control and leading by 11 to 15 points throughout. That is until the 8:07 mark. Trailing 53-38, the Highlanders went on an 8-0 run slashing the Patriots lead to only 7, 53-46.

Cairn carried that momentum into the final minutes of the game, outscoring Valley Forge 8-2 from the 5:57 mark to the 3:25 mark, and had dwindled the Patriots 15-point lead down to 2 points at 55-53. Without warning though, the Highlanders shooting would turn cold as they failed to knock down a basket in the final three minutes as Valley Forge survived the scare 59-53.

These two teams will meet next Monday, February 18 in Phoenixville, PA for their NCCAA East Region Semi-Final match.

Before then, though, the Highlanders have to take care of business in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. This Wednesday, Cairn will host Immaculata University at 6pm in the Mason Activity Center. The Might Macs won the first meeting 76-59 back on Dec. 8, 2012.
