Women's Volleyball Splits on Day Two at Nationals

Lincoln, IL - Cairn University won one and lost one on their final day in the National Christian College Athletic Association tournament in Lincoln, IL.

Taking on the 8th seed Ambassadors of Ozark Christian College, the ladies went five sets but eventually fell 3-2 (26-24, 14-25, 26-28, 25-12, 15-12). The loss officially knocked the Highlanders out of contention for a spot in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Brigid Shehan had a team-high 13 kills for Cairn. On defense, Abbie Keating and Ashleigh Colomina each registered 20 digs.

Playing for pride and the chance for five seniors to leave one last impression on the court, Cairn rolled past Providence College 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-21) in their 2013 finale.

Erin Greenwood logged 26 assists in the final chapter of the season for Cairn. Rachel Johnson and Emily Mayer proved a threat down the middle as both registered nine kills to lead the Highlanders attack. Shehan had a team-high nine digs and three service aces.

The women wrapped up their trip at the NCCAA National Tournament with a 1-3 record, during which senior Erin Greenwood surpassed the 3,000 assists milestone.

Greenwood, Abbie Keating, Ashleigh Colomina, Emily Mayer, and Rachel Johnson helped the women's program to three consecutive NCCAA East Region banners! They have certainly left their legacy.
