Highlanders Never Trail Against Arcadia

The Highlanders never trailed Tuesday night in sweeping Arcadia
Langhorne, PA - The Cairn University Highlanders swept the Knights of Arcadia, 3-0, on Tuesday night, never trailing once. The victory extends a three year unbeaten streak against the Knights, dating back to 2010. Since 2006, the Highlanders are now 5-1 versus Arcadia, with their only loss coming in 2009.

Box Score

In the opening set, the Highlanders jumped all over the Knights taking an 8-0 lead. Arcadia would cut the score back to 6 points on a couple of occasions but that was as close as they would come. Cairn eventually opened the gap even more and closed out the opening set 25-12.

The second set was the most competitive with Arcadia hanging around for the first half. With the scored sitting at 16-10, in favor of Cairn, the Highlanders scored five unanswered points on the back of three service aces in a row from junior outside hitter Abbie Keating (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy), putting no doubt in the outcome, winning 25-15.

Needing one more set win to complete the sweep, the Highlanders raced out to a 5-0 lead. However, the Knights didn't crumble right away fighting back to within 1 point, 5-4. The teams went back and forth until the score was 12-7. At that point, the "Brigid Shehan Show" began. Sophomore outside hitter Brigid Shehan (Media, PA / Penncrest) went on a tear in the final minutes of the contest, rocking 5 kills in helping the Highlanders to a 13-point run to close out the evening, handing Cairn a 25-7 3rd set win, and a sweep of the Knights on the night, 3-0.

Shehan finished with a team leading 13 kills, helped along by junior setter Erin Greenwood (Springfield, OH / Shawnee) who logged 22 assists. Greenwood and Abbie Keating each served up 5 service aces. Defensively, Ashleigh Colomina (Allen Park, MI / Inter-City Baptist) came up with 15 digs, while Abbie Keating contributing 11 digs.
