Gators Take a Bite Out of Highlanders

Baltimore, MD - The Highlander's women's tennis team competed against the Gators of Notre Dame (MD) on Saturday in a conference match up.

Unfortunately, it was the Gators who came out with more bite. Cairn's Meghan Whittington did her part, helping earn the Highlanders 2 wins on the day; one each in singles and doubles play. However, Notre Dame had the better of the afternoon otherwise. The Gators would go on to win 7-2.

Whittington, playing in the 3rd spot,  defeated Notre Dame's Morgan Wheaton 6-3, 6-2. In the 5th spot, Cairn's Natalie Livingston nearly came from behind to win her match up with Megan Kemp in the match of the day. Notre Dame's Kemp won the opening set 7-5 before Livingston convincingly tied things up, taking the second set 2-6. Kemp pulled out the win taking the tiebreaker 10-5. Notre Dame claimed victories in each of the other singles pairings.

In doubles play, Whittington once again was on the winning end. With her doubles partner Dana Hartman, the pair earned an 8-5 win against Notre Dame's Kemp and Celeste Holmes. It was the only victory in the three doubles matches.
