Langhorne, PA - The Highlanders took on NCAA Div. II affiliated Philadelphia University on Tuesday night and put forth a strong showing.

The match had several drawn out rallies between the two schools but in the end, it seemed the Rams height played dividends. The Highlanders had some difficulty hitting pass the tall front court of Philadelphia, who ended the game with 12 blocks compared the Cairn's 2. Given the choice of hitting into a block or looking to hit the ball elsewhere, the Highlanders were forced into 22 errors on attack.
On offense, both teams used a team effort with no single player getting most of the service. Four different players from both teams attempted 12 or more attacks, with Philadelphia' Ellie Edgar leading the way with 8 kills.
Brigid Shehan and
Abbie Keating led the attack for the Highlanders with 6 kills apiece. Keating also contributed 2 service aces on the night.
Ashleigh Colomina came up with 13 digs to lead all defenders on the night.
Erin Greenwood's 22 assists was also another game-high, with Philadelphia's Allyson Schillinger setting up 20 and Nina Morvin adding 14.
Philadelphia won the first set 25-13 before being asked more of by Cairn in the second. The Rams took the second set 25-19 and closed things out in the third set 25-15.
The ladies fall to 7-5. Next up, their first conference game of the season against Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday, September 22. This weekend will be a tri-match which will also see the Highlanders face-off against Delaware Valley College for the second time in a week's time.
